Artist Spotlight: Michael Rivera
» Bio From edgy techstep to soothing atmospheric, Michael's musical tastes run the gamut of Drum and Bass. Music has always played a large part in Michael's life. His father, a musician himself, introduced Mike to a wide variety of music at an early age; everything from The Ramones to Kraftwerk, Brian Eno to King Crimson. Add that to growing up emersed in Chicago's burgeoning House and Industrial scene, and it's not hard to see how Michael ended up where he is. His first experience with the rave scene was a party called "Virtual Raveality" in the summer of '92. Afterwards, he slowly began making the rounds of the Chicago party circuit. It was here that he was first introduced to the sounds of Drum n' Bass. DJ's like Phantom 45, 3D, and Snuggles gave him his first lessons in breatbeat science. After moving to Ithaca in the summer of '94 to attend Cornell University, Michael's only contact with the scene was when he visited Chicago. That all changed after Mike discovered a local afterhours where Josh Doubles and Sneak-E Pete spun regularly in '97. It was around this time that Michael decided he wanted to learn to DJ, and Josh was nice enough to teach him the basics. Since then he's played at clubs and parties regularly in New York and beyond. In Fall of 2000 Michael launched Inflection Records, with the goal of releasing new artists from the emerging global community. He's also been working in the studio quite a bit, hoping to have some releasable material ready for 2002. » Original Music » Dj Mixes |
